Get Free Money When You Save Money
Finding a way to make ends meet and yet still having access to all you want financially is a delicate balance that many people struggle with on a daily basis. Everyone is looking for that perfect way to get free money but, unfortunately, the saying is true: Nothing is free. But if you are willing to work at it, even a little, then you may find that free money has a way of finding you. One of the easiest ways to obtain “free” money is to start a better system for managing your existing cash. When you save your money with little changes that you make to your daily spending, you may be surprised to see how much of an effect that can have on your bank account at the end of the month. Here are three tips to start seeing that difference sooner rather than later.
Tip #1: Make a budget
This doesn’t have to be the exhausting and tedious task that it initially sounds like. Making a budget can be as simple as tracking your spending habits for one month. At the end of the month, subtract your expenditures from your monthly income. What is left over? Is anything? Ideally you have a bit left over and when this is the case, you can set aside this excess amount into your savings. Just being aware of where your money is going will allow you to have additional “free money” that you can use toward retirement or toward a vacation – however you want. When you do a monthly budget check though are you already in debt from the month’s spending? Now that you have a map of where your money is being spent you can objectively decide where spending can be cut. What can you live without? Where can you better conserve your money? Making simple adjustments such as bringing a refillable water bottle with you instead of buying bottled water while out can start to chip away at your expenditures.
Tip #2: Stop being wasteful
We all waste money in some way or another throughout the month. Whether it is buying bottled water as previously noted or buying only name brand medicines or groceries, the money that can be saved by making a small switch will add up. With medications, oftentimes the generic formula will be identical to the name brand one offered. All you have to do is ask your pharmacist or read the label yourself, if it is an over-the-counter medication. The same can be said for groceries. Buying the store brand tortilla chips will often save you a dollar or two versus buying the Tostitos version. Why waste those extra dollars on a name when they can be extra dollars in your pocket each month. In this case, free money is as easy as buying the same products you normally do – for less.
Tip #3: Internet coupons
The old standby of “clipping coupons” has taken on a new meaning in this digital world. You can find coupons and codes for nearly all of your purchases you make by simply typing a product into a search engine. You should never make an online purchase without first checking to see if there is a discount available. If you are shopping at a certain store or there is a certain product you are purchasing, you can just put the “name of store/product discount code” into a search engine and you will often be able to find a discount you didn’t know existed. The same can be done for your regular shopping as well, not just online. You can find coupons to print and carry and you will slowly but surely start to see savings add up.
By being proactive in your effort to save money you can reap the rewards. Using that extra money each month to create a savings account will add up to free money in your future.
